THE BINKY FAIRY HAS LANDED

For some time now, we have been talking to Paige about the "Binky Fairy." For those that don't know, Paige is highly addicted to her pacifier. (Kind of like I was - I pretty much used one until I went to kindergarten. I probably even had one after that because I wasn't afraid to steal them from unsuspecting babies!) Anyway - we thought that if we talked about how the binky fairy comes to collect all of the big girls' binkies and gives them to all of the babies that need them and in return will leave a fantastic gift for the big girl, she'd get excited about giving up her pacifier. For months she would listen and pretty much discard the story. She was not giving up her favorite thing ever! A few nights ago, I gathered up all of her binkies and put them in a little bag and told her that we need to get ready for the binky fairy. She said, "ok." But then insisted on keeping "just one, mommy." But then last night... IT HAPPENED. We brought it up again and she walked over to the bag full of binkies, dropped in the one from her mouth and said, "I put it outside my door mom!" And that was that. She went right to sleep, no arguments, no nothing! I couldn't believe it. I looked at Scott and we just went with it. He quietly asked, "Does the binky fairy have a gift for her?!" And I said, "Of course! I've been waiting for this to happen - I just never thought it would!"
She woke up this morning with a big gift bag outside of her door. The binky fairy brought her a Tinkerbell back pack for school and filled it with little Tinkerbell trinkets. She was so happy and when I asked her if she missed the binky - she said, "No mommy. I big girl."
